Dawn is a bi-coastal actor, singer, and writer. She has been seen on Broadway, off-Broadway, regionally, on film and television, and has toured as a singer/songwriter internationally. She can currently be seen off-Broadway in Sistas: the musical. Originally from the wilderness of Altadena California, she grew up surfing, hiking, and belting out musical theater songs with her brother Ryan at the piano. She then migrated to New York City to study music and Shakespeare at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and never looked back. Selected acting credits include Broadway: Sting's The Last Ship (originated the role of Young Meg), Wicked (Nessarose). Off-broadway: SISTAS: the musical, Original company of Dogfight, original company of F#%king Up Everything/Brooklyn Crush, Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Winter’s Tale, Music in the Air (Encores! City Center). Regional/National Tour: multiple productions of Les Miserables (Eponine, u/s), The Master Class (Sophie De Palma), Carousel (Julie Jordan). Film: The Train (opposite Eli Wallach), Save The Date (Indie), Isolation (Indie), Tilting At Windmills (Tannhauser Gate Films). TV: Every Other Sunday (Amazon), The Tonight Show. She has a new musical, Hiraeth, in development alongside Addi McDaniel. She also writes and performs with her brother Ryan Cantwell (musical director/conductor forthcoming Broadway revival of 1776). She specializes in sad alto songs, and accompanying herself on her favorite folk, Irish, and quirky tunes on the Guitar, Ukulele, and Piano.
